Sky Channel meeting replays

Just an update regarding the long-awaited race replays from Tasmania's Sky Channel meetings. It seems that discussions are ongoing between Tote Tasmania and Sky Channel on the subject, but at this point approval has not been forthcoming for the rebroadcasting of race replays via the internet. BOTRA Tas is actively monitoring this situation and looks forward to announcing the commencement of this service in the not too distant future.

Dr John Kohnke 'talking horses' in Launceston

Roberts Limited Prospect hosted a seminar featuring prominent Australian veterinarian, author and nutritional adviser Dr John Kohnke on Wednesday, 11th February. An estimated 60 people, mainly from the harness racing industry, with representation also from Thoroughbred and pleasure horses, attended and much useful information was presented.

Dr Kohnke also produces free newsletters and fact sheets dealing with common problems faced by trainers. You can read more about the seminar and find out how to obtain Dr Kohnke's free publications, covering, among other things, how to help your horse cope with extreme heat conditions, on our harness racing blog.

New handicapping proposals now revealed

A series of forums is being held around the country to explain the outcome of a review of the nation-wide handicapping system and the recommendations which have come out of that review. Major changes are proposed regarding 2YO and 3YO handicapping and there is also a proposal to allow horses which have not won in 10 starts to drop back a class.

If you didn't get to the forums held in Launceston and Hobart last week, a summary of new handicapping proposals, and what others have said on the subject, may be viewed on our Harness Racing Blog. Please feel free to express your views if you wish.
