North Eastern Pacing Club - Scottsdale
Scottsdale's big event - Friday, 9 January
Scottsdale's annual twilight harness race meeting was held on Friday, 9th January. Feature event for the day was the $8,000 North Eastern Advertiser North Eastern Pacing Cup, taken out with a bold front-running performance by Strezlecki Time, trained by Brooke Hammond and driven by Craig Toulmin.
In other highlights, race 1 for 2YOs went to the very promising Karalta Macloud (Gareth Rattray), starting off 10 metres, Rattray took the horse around the field in the early stages of the race and cruised to the easiest of wins.
Race 5 featured one of the tightest finishes you will see, with Peppermint Rain getting the verdict in a photo by a lip from Diehard Dillon (right).
Special trophies were presented on the day to Trainer of the Day Phillip Ford, Driver of the Day Scott Ford, Best Female Drive of the Day Erin Hollaway, Drive of the Day Nathan Ford, Driver of the North Eastern Pacing Cup Winner Craig Toulmin, Trainer of the North Eastern Pacing Cup Winner Brooke Hammond, and Junior Driver of the Day Nathan Ford.
Hutchy's popular Punters Club was operating again on races 2 to 7 and those who invested their $20 this year collected $35 each at the end of the day.
On a beautiful, sunny late afternoon the action off the track was also enjoyed by the huge crowd. Face painting and balloon magic kept the kids amused, whilst Fashions on the Field had a keen following. Chester Bullock sponsored this competition and helped out with the judging.
And when the races were over there were plenty of people preparing to make a night of it, with musical entertainment to help things along.
