New racing industry structure
From 1 January 2009, the Tasmanian racing industry comes under the control of the Tasmanian Racing Board, replacing the former structure where Tote Tasmania governed and administered the industry. Harness Racing Tasmania ceased to exist at that date and the new Board replaces the individual boards which previously oversaw the three racing codes.
The Board comprises seven members with backgrounds in business, finance and promotions, as well as the racing industry, including harness racing identity and veterinarian Trevor Leis who represents the harness racing code. Chairman is prominent racing identity and former chairman of the Moonee Valley Racing Club, Don Abell.
The integrity aspect of Tasmanian racing falls under the control of the new Integrity Assurance Board.
